#YYCLC Day 143: School work at lunch time


During recess and lunch our students use the Learning Commons to complete school projects, projects of interest or to try the various maker station challenges offered. These popsicle stick towers were built by students from grades 3 - 6. The tallest one was over 2m in height!

#YYCLC Day 142: White board tables to collaborate

These students are making use of one of our "whiteboard" tables to plan out a project. Since we opened the Learning Commons we are noticing more collaboration between students in all grade levels.

#YYCLC Day 141: Digital Citizenship and Research

These grade two students are working on their research skills for an animal project in their class. This group is working on their digital citizenship skills and learning how to use Comic Life to present the information they have discovered about their animals.

#YYCLC Day 140: Prototyping at Lunchtime


This is a prototype of an electric vehicle that our grade 5/6 students have been working on in Science. Several of the students used the Learning Commons space during lunch and recess to work on their prototypes.

A grade 5 student using the Aurasma App to show his mom his media presentation for social studies. Our grade five students have been working with Aurasma this year to create an augmented reality map to showcase their work.

#YYCLC Day 135: 3D Design and Printing

  

At CHris Akkerman, we are all keen to see how the 3D printing will fit into learning. To start with, we are designing key chains with names on them. This is a way for student to learn the basics of designing some using Morphi App on our iPads.

It's safe to say that today bought a lot of energy into our learning commons! Our students are so excited about the possibility of printing something on the 3D printer. Today we started working with Morphi, an easy to use, 3D designing App.

#YYCLC Day 132: Documenting Learning with iPad

The grade 4s from yesterday post are continuing their work on Simple Machines and are now document their learning using our mini light studio and iPad. They will work with the images at a later point. After the students learn a little more about Simple Machines they will use Skitch App to label the different parts of their machine.

#YYCLC Day 130: Small Group Video Editing


These students came in to the learning commons today representing their classroom groups. We had to work on (redo) an older Digital Citizenship Video project that got deleted during a computer upgrade. They were so excited to be working in iMovie again!
